Animal Protection League of New Jersey (APLNJ) is New Jersey’s central resource for information on community cats and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

APLNJ encourages and assists with the implementation of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as the effective, cost-effective and humane method of managing community cat numbers, protecting public health and reducing impact on wildlife. We provide technical assistance to municipalities, nonprofits, and residents, and advocate on behalf of the cats and their caregivers.

Using TNR, all the cats in a colony are trapped, altered and vaccinated against rabies. Feral cats (having been eartipped) are returned to their territory where caregivers provide them with lifelong food, water, shelter and veterinary care. Young kittens who can still be socialized, as well as friendly adults, are placed in foster care and eventually adopted out to good homes.

APLNJ seeks to make New Jersey a Trap-Neuter-Return friendly state by providing assistance to caregivers and municipalities alike.

We support feral cat caregivers through advocacy, networking, education and funding by:

• maintaining an email listserv of caregivers for sharing of resources and experiences
• making educational materials available
• connecting caregivers with local experienced TNR advocates and organizations who can assist in implementing a TNR program
• assisting with management of community cat populations in apartment or high volume housing areas as well as business complexes
